Today is the 31st day of Lent (if you include
Sundays), and we are two weeks away from Easter! For Lent, I decided to give up
Facebook and Twitter. Originally, I planned on only giving up Facebook, but
then I realized I would spend all of that extra time on Twitter. So to avoid
wasting my time on social media networks, I decided to give up both. So far… it
has been torture. I never realized how much time I actually spent checking
notifications and tweets during the day until I was sitting my room bored out
my mind!
So how have I decided to spend my time this past month? Going
on Pinterest.
But really, I have spent more time with all of my friends
from Young Life LT eating countless meals together on campus, studying for
exams while rockin’ out to J-biebs and Needtobreathe, and watching movies.
Other days I’ve spent my time watching The Walking Dead, Prison
Break, and One Tree Hill on
Netflix. Thank God for Netflix! It was a bittersweet day when I finally
finished the last season of OTH. You
learn some of the best morals from that show. If you’re friends with me, you’ll
probably hear me quote this show so many times. Now I have my eyes glued on The Walking Dead and I am obsessed! At
first I thought it was going to be some weird show with an obsession for
zombies, but after watching the first episode, I was hooked! In a way, it kind
of reminds me of I am Legend and I’m
hoping the ending is almost similar in a way, but I can’t wait to see where the
series goes.
I have also spent some time with my nose buried in my new
book Worship Matters by Bob Kauflin.
So far I’m in the fifth chapter and I have already learned so much about what
it means to truly be a worship leader and how to lead others in a time of
worship. Maybe I’ll share some of the pointers from the book in my future
posts. It is a must read if you ever are thinking about leading worship or even
wanting to learn more about what worship is, what it means, and why we sing
songs in church.
I wish the best to everyone is these last couple of weeks
before Easter, before everyone goes back to whatever they gave up for Lent. We
all know Grocery stores are going to make mad money on chocolate, soda, and
junk food of all sorts that weekend. But try to remember what Lent is truly about.
From Ash Wednesday to Easter, people enter a time of reflection on Christ. Many
take this time to fast, to turn from their worldly desires, and spend more time
focusing on the reason why we celebrate Easter. Jesus Christ died for our sins
on Good Friday, and on the third day he rose again, showing us that nothing can
defeat the Lord our God. I could reflect on that all my life and still be
mesmerized by the fact that Jesus died for me! Even though I was not alive 2000
years ago when this happened, Jesus knew that one day you and I would walk upon this
earth, and He died for us too. He died so that we may live and have eternal life. I could never thank God enough for that. And to know that he
raised himself from the dead just amazes me even more!
So take these next couple weeks to reflect on where you are
with God and what it means to be a Christian. Have a Happy Easter and God
Bless!
